Life lessons on Leadership from my 8 year old

Kids say the darnedest things sometimes as any parent knows and mine are no exception. This weekend I went into the kitchen to reload on my coffee and was about to get down the gummy bear vitamins for my kids since they had been bugging me all morning that they had to take them( they really don't care about the nutrition they just want the gummy bears). When I looked up in the cupboard I noticed they were missing and my daughter quickly said she had already gotten them down and took hers to which I asked jokingly what did she need me for then! She turned to me and so innocently said "I need you to tell me what to do!" That comment has stuck with me ever since and her message is so incredibly true in every aspect of life....We can't do everything on our own even though we try and we need to look to God and put down our pride and seek his guidence in our life. Our world is searching for leadership and will grab on the coattails of anything that comes along that resembles conviction. The masses will sway to the next great thing in hopes that it will bring them direction and hope. The problem is that we as Christ followers have the ultimate leader in our hearts and choose not to look to Him and let His truths direct us to what we need to do in life and in the lives of people around us. Instead we try to do everything on our own and without Gods direction we will inevitably fall on our face in failure. Our friends our family our coworkers our world is begging for someone to give them direction on what to do with their lives and there are people telling them every day in books and on TV. Who will stand up and tell them what God says? That is our mission in life as a Christ follower to go into all the world and preach the gospel of good news that Jesus loves them and wants to have a relationship with them. My daughter didn't say "you have to tell me what to do" or "you always tell me what to do". She said the key word "I NEED you to tell me what to do" We need Gods direction for our lives and we should seek it and crave it not just ask for it when we are in desperation. God will lead through us all we have to do is ask for the strength and wisdom and our world can be changed.
